Within the first year working at the Center for Global Engagement, I redesigned its website with the IT Manager.
The CGE's website was independently hosted and maintained, and it needed to be converted to work within the University's content management system: Drupal.
The former communications coordinator made a site map with the staff during a retreat. However, upon reviewing the flow of the sitemap, I believed we needed to modify our approach to help students navigate the site more easily.
For example, I believed incoming international students might have difficulty finding the content they needed when it was first separated by visa type instead of by broader categories of interest like 'employment.' I worked with our immigration staff to make adjustments to how we presented the information. Now there is a main landing page for employment information, and within that page, information is provided for each different visa classification.
We used fresh photography to tell our brand story across the website, as well as simplified and alternate menu systems to enhance the user experience.
The new site's home page features current news stories, upcoming events, student feature stories, and quick links to help visitors navigate to popular pages of our website.
